“Theatre exists in the coming together to share air, the ritual of real life, ephemeral and transitory, with the very real possibility that something totally transforming will reveal itself.”

about.

Piknik Theatre is a nonprofit theater company in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

OUR MISSION

Piknik Theatre creates professional, entertaining, and inclusive theatrical experiences in the Yampa Valley. We collaborate with the community in numerous performance venues both indoors and outdoors; and we strive to bring a variety of work to our community including Shakespeare, Musical Theater, New Works, Devised Pieces, and Theater for Young Audiences.

We believe and encourage the accessibility of the performing arts for everyone by producing a free summer season every year.

Professional actors and local talent collaborate to create our summer season. This unique opportunity allows the community to share in exceptional theatrical experiences as both actors and audience members. We believe in the immense power, value, and influence of arts education and have created opportunities for our professional artists to teach workshops, educate through our school systems, and engage with audiences through talkbacks.

Join us for professional theater in the Yampa River Botanic Park. Make it a summer tradition! Bring friends and family, a blanket and chairs, food and drinks, and enjoy.

2022 PROFESSIONAL SUMMER SEASON

Our professional company brought the musical A Year with Frog + Toad to the Yampa River Botanic Park with a fabulous 6 piece band and a story for the entire family! In addition to this musical, our company performed Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, a Disney Cabaret, a Broadway Cabaret, and brought both of our productions to the Hayden Granary.

2022 SUMMER CAMPS

This summer, Piknik offered more summer programs than ever before! Our local students put together an amazing production of High School Musical Jr., directed by Vivienne Claire Luthin and music directed by Jeremy Jacobs. We also offered 3 week long summer camps for ages 4-18 to explore the world of musical theater. We are so proud of all of our young artists and look forward to next summer.

“Working together with the professional actors makes it particularly fun for me, because it’s often the same people in the plays, and you kind of get to know them and have a relationship,” he explained. “These people are so accomplished. It’s really fun for me to be able to be on the same stage as them."-Larry M.
