Tradition of Theatre for All
From the Globe to the Yampa Valley
In 1599, Shakespeare and his fellow actors built the Globe Theatre in London — a wooden, open-air playhouse where stories leapt to life for everyone. From laborers standing in the yard for a penny to nobles in private boxes, the Globe was a rare place where all walks of life gathered side by side, united by the power of live performance.
The Globe wasn’t just a theatre — it was a community.
Every clap, every laugh, every gasp came from people who knew they were part of something bigger. And it worked because it belonged to them. The people of Elizabethan London didn’t just watch the theatre — they sustained it.
Here in Steamboat Springs, Piknik Theatre carries forward that same spirit.
For NEARLY TWO DECADES, we’ve been bringing free and/or donation based performances to Steamboat Springs, where families, students, neighbors, and visitors can share the magic of theatre under the open sky.
Now, with the opening of our new Amphitheatre in 2026, we’re stepping into the next chapter — creating a permanent home for outdoor performance in the Yampa Valley. Like the Globe, it will be a place where art is accessible to everyone, no matter their background or means.
The Branham Amphitheatre’s construction marks the next phase of piknik theatre’s impact in our community.
located in Strawberry Park. This one of a kind, historically designed Amphitheatre marries the tradition of the past with the promise of tomorrow.
PIKNIK’S giving globe
Is our tiered giving circle inspired by the iconic Globe Theatre, where every role — from groundling to patron — helps bring the performance to life. Donors “step into the Globe” at different levels of support, each representing a vital part of the theatre’s world.
From the groundlings to the Shakespeare’s Circle, every gift keeps our stage alive and our community connected — just as it did in Shakespeare’s time. Your support is what will make the 2026 Amphitheatre a place for everyone.
