OPEN CASTING CALL 2025 SEASON

AUDITION INFORMATION

We are working to assemble a company of players for the 2025 Piknik Theatre performance season. We will offer two productions: Shakespeare's 12th Night and an original or existing script to be selected/devised by the actors and the artistic director

We're expanding to three weeks of performances, July 20-August 7, Sunday through Thursday, primarily at our new outdoor performance location.

This season, Piknik Theatre is dedicated to diversifying its cast and reimagining traditional narratives with respect, humility, and collaboration. For the 2025 season, we are particularly focused on hiring female, non-binary, and performers from traditionally underrepresented communities. Our goals are as follows:

  • Increase opportunities for female and non-binary performers, who have historically had fewer roles in Piknik Theatre productions and the broader theatre community.

  • Examine the impact of gender-inclusive casting on classical Shakespeare texts.

  • Foster a racially inclusive environment by actively seeking performers from diverse backgrounds, ensuring representation of a wide range of perspectives and professional experiences.

Rehearsals will begin in June or July 2025, with the first week either online or at the actors' home location. Two weeks of intensive rehearsals will commence in Steamboat Springs, CO, on July 7, with a tentative opening on Sunday, July 20. Thereafter, performances will continue through August 7, on Sunday through Thursday evenings.

12th Night Roles may include: Orsino, Olivia, Viola, Malvolio, Sir Toby Belch, Feste, Maria (other roles to be performed by local Steamboat actors wherever possible).

The second production (TBD) cast will only include the professional actors.

Housing in Steamboat and a transportation allowance will be included in the contract.

Video auditions will be accepted immediately and no later than May 1st.
